THE SURPLUS-WEALTH TAX

          It is Hazrat Ayesha’s  r.ha statement that  she heard from Holy Prophet SAW That when the wealth of Zakat mixes with other wealth,it kills and destroys the letter. Imam Syafie and Iman Bukhari report in the book entitled Tarikh that Humaidi’s interpretation of the above-mentioned hadith is that when payment of Zakat became obligatory and it was not paid. The unlawful (haram) wealth would destroy the lawful (halal) wealth. Imam Ahmad has interpreted thus that a man may demand zakat or some one may pay it, then that wealth is destroyed: there is no baraka in such wealth.       (Mirqat Sharh-e Mishkat)

           The effects of certain sins have become explicit from the afore-said Hadith.

(1) Famines will come by short weighing and short measuring and people will have to set themselves to sweating labour as well as suffer the ruler’s tyranny. Today we are witnessing divine chastisement with our own eyes. Shall we not believe now in the Holy Prophet’s SAW statement?

(2) If zakat is not paid, rains will be withheld. How many wealthy persons today, calculating their wealth accurately, pay full zakat?

(3) If a man does not deserve to take zakat and yet takes it just to increase his own wealth, this wealth zakat, instead of augmenting his wealth, will destroy his own capital.

(4) When shamefulness and modesty disappear and men and women become shameless and immodest and adultery spreads, rains will be withheld. How many parents can be met with today who may draw the attention and their daughters, daughters-in-law and other relations toward this? Wearing seminude clothes, they a creating the causes of adultery and fornication. Incidence of death will increase due to increasing causes and appearance of ever new diseases day by day: it will be impossible to check it.

(5) Mutual promises will be broken. People will quarrel face to face and these quarrels will culminate with murders of each other. (6) The elders (leaders) of the community, discriminating against the common people, will give wrong decisions and so Allah most High will impose murder and blood shed on them. Just think over it that today big and small institutions are working in every town and village but nowhere do they care to give impartial justice and right to the rightful claimant. Leaders of the community for the fear of their worker’s and relatives’ resentment do not say and thing to them.

(7) Destruction comes through usury and adultery; this destruction may be due to drought or through heavy rains and floods that wash away villages after villages , or though dreadful diseases like plague or cholera.

(8) There will be interence quarrels and murders and therefore Allah will impose other peoples leadership upon the Muslims. What is happening everywhere today? Other nations, taking advantage of the Muslim’s internecine quarrels and infighting, are ruling over them and are putting them to disgrace. When the Muslims fight amongst themselves and kill each other, then Allah Most High will impose their enemies on them. What is happening in the Muslim countries now today? Other nations are taking advantage of their quarrels and to what a state they have reduced them!
